Description

Heat soaking is a specialized process used to minimize the risk of spontaneous breakage in tempered glass. During this procedure, tempered glass is heated to a high temperature and held for a specific period, typically to detect and eliminate nickel sulfide inclusions that can cause delayed breakage. Any defective glass that may break under these conditions is removed during the process.

The remaining glass is considered "heat soaked", offering improved durability and a significantly lower risk of failure in the field. This makes heat soaked tempered glass an ideal choice for high-performance applications in commercial, residential, and architectural projects where safety, reliability, and long-term performance are critical.

Key Product Features

Increased Safety

Heat soaked glass is less likely to spontaneously break, which makes it a safer option for buildings and vehicles.

Improved Resistance Against Thermal Stress

The heat soaked glass process strengthens the glass and increases its resistance to thermal stress, which makes it more durable and last longer.

Improved Resistance Against Shock

Where greater impact resistance is necessary, consider using heat-strengthened glass products. For any commercial glazing application, Hartung recommends the use of heat-treated glass. Using heat soaked glass can reduce the risk of liability for architects, contractors and property owners by reducing the risk of glass breaking.

Improved Resistance to Loads

Heat treating glass strengthens it against wind and snow loads, making it a reliable choice for glazed applications where peak performance is critical.
